Grandaddy's famous bookcase

Ok, this bookcase took me a year to finish. I had to strip a lot of layers of paint from this and the design of the piece made it a challenge. Then, after days of sanding and my husband buying me several more sanders ;) I found wood!!! The original plan was to usestain but once I got down to the wood, I found it was made from several different kinds and I just wasn't happy with the look. So, frustrated I walked away for a while. When we decided to finally paint the house, I became inspired all over again. I was drawn to a particular color scheme that ended up looking different once on the wall but I was pleasantly surprised. I was then inspired to use a sea grass color on the bookcase and distress it. I found some beautiful knobs to add a chic look and decided to use the bookcase in the kitchen/breakfast area. I left the inside stained so the antique plates would stand out. The mini shelves are showcasing the treasures I have accumulated over the years. Children's art and special gifts from friends and family. I hope the pics do it justice.
